• Hybrid bikes can be the ideal machine for commuting in traffic and often have potential for touring. They generally come with comfortable upright riding positions for better vision, straight handlebars (although some are more curved as in traditional style hybrids), many have wide gear ranges for most road conditions and a range of prices depending on componentry and lightness. But some have 3 gears or even one! It depends on your definition of a hybrid.
• Some hybrids have "cross-bike" additions like suspension forks and disc brakes for tougher riding conditions like towpaths and parks and forest trails. Some come stripped down and others come fully equipped with mudguards, pannier carriers and lights ready to go for that long commute to the office into London town from Highgate, Finchley or Barnet and beyond!
